How Rotational Grazing Supports Sustainable Farming

Rotational grazing does more than improve wool quality. It also plays an important role in sustainable agriculture.

Healthy pastures help build stronger soil by improving root systems and increasing organic matter. Better soil holds water more effectively, supports beneficial microorganisms, and reduces erosion over time.

Because the pastures are allowed time to recover naturally, farmers often rely less on fertilisers, herbicides, and intensive land treatments. This creates healthier ecosystems for pollinators, wildlife, and livestock alike. Here at JK Evergreen Ranch, we have never used fertilisers, herbicides, or any other treatments on our pastures. The sheep, goats, alpacas, and horses do the work. We will mow areas of the pasture a couple of times a year to help it, but that is about it.

For shepherds, rotational grazing helps maintain healthier flocks and more productive pastureland. For fibre artists and consumers, it provides access to natural wool produced through methods that respect both the animals and the environment.
